Position Overview:

Operating out of our Calgary or London office, the Accounting Specialist is a critical part of the internal Finance Team, taking on a key role for the business in full cycle payroll processing, with further opportunity to contribute to other key accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process weekly payroll in adherence to federal and provincial regulations.
  • Manage commission system and processes, including resolution of discrepancies.
  • Administer payroll records and benefits.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Record journal entries and reconcile accounts using Great Plains accounting software.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closings, including financial report preparation.
  • Support the accounts payable process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
  • Collaborate with team members on ad hoc accounting and administrative tasks.
  • Contribute to key projects as required.

 

 

What You Bring:

Experience:

  • Strong working knowledge of payroll processing systems and procedures.
  • In- depth knowledge of Canadian payroll regulations.
  • 3+ years experience in full cycle payroll processing.
  • Competency in posting and balancing accounting records.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Accounting or a related field.
  • Payroll designation (PCP, CPM) is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Great Plains (Microsoft Dynamics GP) is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPS, and data analysis).
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information to ensure the privacy of company data.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
